There are different ways to learn and train for the certificates. For the Basic Safety Certificate, there is a handbook that you can use for self-education, some centres offer also on-line courses, some schools integrate the content in their program and some centres offer open training.
Certificates are based on a standardised assessment procedure that is identical in all countries. The assessment is not organised by us, but by our members. They are responsible for the delivery of the certificate. To get an appointment for an assessment, you need to contact one of our member centres. They can also explain all the details of the procedure.
Exception to this is the assessors certificate, this is delivered by ETTEC, but organised by the local partners.
The assessment are practice based tests. We do not expect actions that are not expected in real life. The simplest way to describe the assessment is “ a normal day in the life of … “ with the nuance that two assessors will monitor how you do your job.
We do not expect any exceptional things from you, if you work as a professional you probably have the required competences.
On the other hand, it is always good to freshen-up you background and look critical to your own practice. Our training section can lead you to what fits best your situation.
At the moment you can get an assessment for the ETTEC Basic Safety Certificate.
The Assessor certificate and the Trainer certificate are coming soon.
The cost of the assessment and certification depends from country to country because some countries support the validation of prior learning actively. Please contact your local centre to find out more.
No, most certificates have a limited validity. The duration of validity depends on the certificate. The reason for this is that some competences are more subject to technological changes than others. For some high risk activities one also expect a minimum of practice to keep up your level.
Most certificates have a short renewal procedure to prolong the certificate.
You can find the duration of a certificate and the way of prolonging it in the occupational standard.
Every assessment centre will deliver the same certificate. So the certificate is valid in all participating countries.
Other countries can accept the certificate if they want to. We support them in doing so by providing them all the information needed to verify the quality of the certificate.
If you do not agree with the decision of a local assessment centre, you can appeal. There are different steps you can take in this appeal, important is that you can only take the next step if you have finished the previous one.
- the first thing you should do is contact the local assessment centre and explain why you disagree. They will look into your request and try to solve this amicably.
- If the disagreement continues they will appoint a mediator that will hear the different parties and advise the local centre.
- If all steps in the local procedure are finalised, you can appeal to the international mediator of the ETTEC counsel. The international mediator is an independent person that will hear all parties and try to find a consensus.
- The conclusion of the mediator will be send to the Board of Directors to decide.
- A last appeal is possible to the General Assembly.
Details about appeal procedures can be found in the procedures handbook.
If you have a complaint about the functioning of a local organisation or the way you are treated by one of their co-workers, you need to send the complaint to them. Only when the local procedures are finalised you can complain to the international mediator of the ETTEC council. The international mediator is an independent person that will hear all parties and try to find a consensus. The conclusion of the mediator will be send to the Board of Directors to decide. A last appeal is possible to the General Assembly.
If you have a complaint about the ETTEC Counsel itself, you can direct yor complaint immediately to the international mediator.
